Proposal

Community Woodland

The proposed area for the community woodland can be seen outlined in the photo above. The 25 acre field is owned by Knockbain Farm. We hope to plant roughly half of this (outlined in green) with native broadleaf trees and shrubs and potentially create a pond as well as incorporate some of the fantastic suggestions that have come from the community such as paths, picnic areas, a playpark, and more! The area highlighted in pink represents a 50-60m gap between the houses and the planting area that will not be planted with the taller native species, but instead may be used for a community orchard or wildflower meadow.

There will be no parking available for the woodland, other than 2-3 spaces dedicated to those who cannot walk from the town, for example people with a disability that impairs their ability to walk long distances. Everyone else is encouraged to walk from home, or park their vehicles in the large car parks around town.

There will be an all-access path into the field which will make walking and wheeling possible for everyone.

The next steps in the project are:

  • Build an all-access path into the field
  • Erect deer fencing
  • Mass tree planting
